Rock Climbing Business Lessons

We can learn so many things from almost every activity we engage in and Rock Climbing has lots of amazing lessons! We have a young lady on our team who is passionate about Rock Climbing and she will be leaving our team at the end of the month so she can pursue her passions. In honor of her decision, we decided to share a few lessons from the exciting sport of Rock Climbing!

#1 KNOW YOUR TARGET

  • Rock climbers- just like business owners- need to know their target! Starting out knowing exactly where you want to go is critical to your success! Clearly defining your target will make both your cimbing and business experiences a success.

#2 HAVE THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

  • Know what you need and fill your tool belt with the necessary tools to be a success. Whether you are talking about ropes & caribiners for rock climbing or the tools of a particular trade; arming yourself with the necessary tools will mean the difference between success and failure.

#3 DON’T GO ALONE

  • When you reach the mountin top, you need someone to take the picture! Oh- and then there is that safety thing! Business is the same way- you need a witness and a pair of extra hands. Be sure to take your team or partner with you!

#4 SET SMALLER TARGETS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

  • Often times the distance between where you are and the mountain top is so far away that you need to set some smaller goals to make that mountain top seem reachable! Break your goals into bite size pieces, identify the various 'mini targets' on your mountain and you'll definitely get to the top!

#5 DON’T GIVE UP

  • Goals worth achieving- just like those glorious mountains- are often filled with obstacles. Setting your sites on the prize and resolving yourself to do what it takes to get there will help you reach your goals. Click on the DONT GIVE UP title for a little inspiration!

#7 ENJOY THE JOURNEY

  • Happiness does not lie in reaching the mountain top but rather within the journey it takes to get there. Take the time to enjoy every part of the adventure! In business, we sometimes get so focused on a goal that we forget to enjoy the process. Enjoy the Journey!

#8 SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET GO– TO GO UP

  • Rock climbers know that no matter how good a particular rock may feel, you have to let go to get to the next rock. In business, we often have to let go of certain product lines in order to really focus on the ones that resonate with our clients. Individually, we have to pass up the good opportunities to find the truly great ones.

Rock climbing holds lots of great lessons for business and for our personal lives.

  • Know where you are going!
  • Have your tools in place.
  • Bring a camera man!
  • Break your mountainous goals into smaller targets.
  • NEVER give up!
  • Enjoy the journey (even the tough parts).
